EU Regulation ESPR · Digital Product Passport

Important information about the Digital Product Passport (DPP) for Tent Tarpaulins

We, as SKP GmbH, summarize the current developments in regard of the EU regulation for the tent market. The new EU regulation ESPR (Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation) applies to nearly all physical products sold in the EU. Tent tarpaulins fall into early-regulated categories and are expected to require a Digital Product Passport starting between 2027–2029.

1. Tent tarpaulins are textile / polymer-based products

The EU identified the following groups as first to require a Digital Product Passport:

  • Textiles (clothing, household & technical textiles)
  • Plastic products
  • Plastic composites
  • Outdoor & technical textiles

Technical textiles such as tarpaulins, fabrics, nets and outdoor covers are explicitly prioritised by the European Commission.

DPP – at a glance

  • Applies to physical products in the EU
  • Focus on circularity & transparency
  • Technical textiles among first sectors
  • Digital information passport per product

2. “High Circularity Impact Products”

Tarpaulins often consist of PVC, TPU, PE, PP and similar materials. These materials generate significant and complex waste streams, which is why they are part of the EU’s early circularity focus.

These elements form the core of the Digital Product Passport.
