We, as SKP GmbH, summarize the current developments in regard of the EU regulation for the tent market. The new EU regulation ESPR (Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation) applies to nearly all physical products sold in the EU. Tent tarpaulins fall into early-regulated categories and are expected to require a Digital Product Passport starting between 2027–2029.
The EU identified the following groups as first to require a Digital Product Passport:
Textiles (clothing, household & technical textiles)
Plastic products
Plastic composites
Outdoor & technical textilesTechnical textiles such as tarpaulins, fabrics, nets and outdoor covers are explicitly prioritised by the European Commission.
Tarpaulins often consist of PVC, TPU, PE, PP and similar materials. These materials generate significant and complex waste streams, which is why they are part of the EU’s early circularity focus.
Textiles are confirmed as a First-Wave Sector. Tarpaulins, as technical textiles, are expected to be regulated in the same wave.
*Exact dates depend on delegated acts for each product group.SKPident includes typical DPP fields for a tent tarpaulin include:
